The newly-formed Russian Hockey Hall of Fame used an off day in the men’s tournament to host a special ceremony in which it inducted the first 146 members.

Although the museum is still more than a year away from being completed in Moscow, the opportunity to have an event in conjunction with the Sochi Olympics was too good to pass up.

More than 40 living members attended the ceremony at which the great Vladislav Tretiak bestowed them with flowers and a medal to acknowledge their induction. They were nominated by a Council of Hockey Fame which in future years will induct up to four people a year.

The new museum will be part of a larger and more ambitious project covering 30 hectares and include an Ice Palace in Moscow consisting of three arenas and a swimming centre. The largest arena will have a capacity of 12,000 while the smaller venues will accommodate 3,000 and 500 spectators, respectively.
