The 2014 Olympic ice hockey tournaments now have their officiating crews, as the final 43 selections were made over who would get to call the games in Sochi.

As with Vancouver 2010, the men's tournament will have a mix of both international and National Hockey League officials. The international officials were selected by the IIHF Officiating Committee from a pool of 32 candidates for the men's tournament and 22 for the women's.

"All of these candidates are considered to be top officials in their respective club leagues," said IIHF Officiating Manager Konstantin Komissarov. "We made our decisions on three main criteria: physical conditioning, performance in their respective national championships, and their ability to work in a team."

"This last point is very important for the Olympics, with mixed crews we need to have officials with good communication and teamwork skills so that they can work effectively with each other."

Among the notable inclusions is Marcus Vinnerborg, who will appear in his second Olympics. Vinnerborg has been officiating in the Swedish pro league Elitserien since 2000, and his international résumé includes all IIHF World Championships between 2006 and 2009 (including the gold medal games in Moscow 2007 and Quebec City 2008) and the 2010 Olympic in Vancouver. Former player Lars Brueggemann, who represented Germany at the Olympics in Nagano, goes to his first Games as an official.

On the women's side the group includes Mélanie Bordeleau, who has three IIHF Worlds under her belt and was in fact the first Canadian woman to work as head referee at a Women's World Championship gold medal game back in 2012. Adding a wealth of officiating experience will be Joy Tottman, a British referee who worked at the Games in Torino and Vancouver and has the distinction of being the first woman to officiate men's games in Britain.
